The popularity of Jeremy Lin and “Linsanity” has brought conversations on stereotypes about Asian Americans to the forefront of pop culture. This roundtable discussion will give any interested students, faculty, staff, and community members an opportunity to discuss their thoughts and opinions on Asian Americans. Topics will include: Jeremy Lin and Asian American masculinity, exoticization of Asian American sexuality, “the model minority” myth, and more.
This Pass the Mic event is intended to be an opportunity for students to have an open conversation addressing both sides of the Trayvon Martin case and the media portrayal. In addition to our discussion, we will view a film of the Indianapolis protest made by local filmmaker Matthew Officer, MPA.

IUPUI Prof. Pamela Martin’s research is focused on understanding the impact of changes to the current mainstream food and agriculture systems at multiple scales – local, regional, continental and ultimately global and includes components addressing the urban environment and food (in)security. These current trends highlight the importance of this neglected area of research—state and local governments as well as the USDA are actively promoting a move towards more small-scale, local, and organic food supplies.
The cultural landscape of Indy continues to be shaped by IUPUI’s performance of “History of Cardenio.” Before the final showing of “Cardenio,” IUPUI Prof. John Alvarado will play Spanish guitar music from the days of Miguel Cervantes. Indianapolis native David Wolf is one of the most important astronauts in the US space program. Wolf has been to space four times. In total Wolf has logged more than 4,040 hours in space. He is also a veteran of 7 spacewalks totaling 41hrs 17min in both Russian and American spacesuits.
There is mounting evidence that the pressures of communication in high stress work areas such as hospital emergency departments (EDs) present particular challenges to the delivery of quality care. Failures in communication have consistently been identified as a major cause of critical incidents – that is, adverse events leading to avoidable patient harm – resulting in patient harm and death and triggering many patient complaints. The presenters will discuss the findings of projects in EDs in Australia and Hong Kong
