No one is better positioned to discuss the future of international philanthropy than Fran Quigley: he has addressed the issue as journalist, as Congressional chief of staff, as board member for global NGOs, now as director of operations for the exceedingly important IU-Kenya partnership … not to mention his sister was long-time head of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Indianapolis has benefited from the infusion of diverse populations throughout its history. Six previous “Sam H. Jones Creating Greater Awareness Forums” have sought to enlighten participants about challenges and opportunities offered by unique communities, including Asian, African, Native American, and West Indian. John Katunga was the head of the Nairobi Peace Initiative, an NGO that sought to find African solutions to African problems. Now he is East Africa regional technical advisor for peacebuilding and justice for Catholic Relief Services with a special emphasis on Kenya. (more…)

means “Holocaust Remembrance Day,” a day set aside for remembering the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. In Israel, it is a national memorial day; in Indianapolis it is an opportunity for the entire community to come together to reaffirm that we can’t keep letting genocide happen. (more…)
