Interactive media artist Scott Snibbe will present interactive works that incorporate reactive video projections, large-scale tracking of humans and vehicles, and Blow Up, which amplifies human breath as a large field of wind. He will discuss the philosophical divide between language and visceral perception that motivates his creation of interactive media art. (more…)

Nicolas van de Walle (PhD. Princeton University, 1990) is the John S. Knight Professor of International Studies, Professor of Government and Director of the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies. His primary field is comparative politics. His teaching and research focuses on the political economy of development, with a special focus on Africa; on democratization, and on the politics of economic reform. Dan Coats had a very successful and distinguished public career, serving in the US 1981-1989, and in the Senate 1989-1999. His career may have become even more interesting after he left the Senate. After narrowly missing being nominated as the Secretary of Defense in 2001 (the world would be a different place if he had been in the Pentagon the past six years rather than Donald Rumsfeld!), Coats took the post of US ambassador to Germany just days before 9/11. He thus had one of country’s the most sensitive diplomatic positions, trying to hold alliances together through Afghanistan and Iraq. (more…)
