Ancient cities, as we find them today, are not impressive sights. All that remains of Çatalhöyük (Chat-al Hoo-yook), one of the world’s first city, is a gullied, pitted mound, floating in a rolling plain of wheat fields. Little is left to show that this place was a primary source of Western civilization, a nexus of trade and ideas for two thousand years, the first organized cosmopolitan city-state, and arguably the source of the Great Mother Goddess religion—the universal faith of Europe, the Near East, and the Far East before the great empires of the Fertile Crescent arose. Residents and business owners in six developing Indianapolis neighborhoods have recently banded together to improve the quality of life in their areas. This briefing will summarize their neighborhood development plans created with support from the Great Indy Neighborhoods Initiative (GINI).

The Dignity Center of the Orchard School plans to bring Majora Carter to Indianapolis for a conference to help kids become engaged in the community and the world. They are organizing a community forum to help stimulate action by adults as well as kids. Details are being settled at this moment. (more…)
