How do teenagers envision a just, sustainable, and peaceful community? Local high school and congregational groups will share their imaginative and artistic visions with a panel of Indianapolis community leaders.
Comic books, film noir and the visual art of Jean-Michel Basquiat are a few of the springboards for Kevin Young’s poetry. The author of collections Black Maria, Jelly Roll (a finalist for the National Book Award) and most recently, For the Confederate Dead, Young digs deep into history by way of the arts. Walk with Young through the IMA galleries and share impressions of selected works of art.
As part of his series “Together Again: Music & Poetry,” Indiana Poet Laureate Norbert Krapf joins with jazz pianist Monika Herzig (and the alternative country and American group Tom Roznowski and the Living Daylights) to perform songs and poems about war and peace.
“Golda’s Balcony” is an affectionate portrait of the larger-than-life Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir, a complex one-woman play, takes a dramatic look at history, idealism and power. In connection with the performance by the Civic Theatre, Middle East expert Pierre Atlas will give a talk about Golda Meir.
Storytelling performed by Gerald Fierst, Arif Choudhury and Susan O’Halloran (Jewish, Muslim and Catholic) offering a “real life-story tapestry” of traditional, personal and sacred stories illuminating the experience of being an American in a time of religious tension and change.
Joseph Lehner puts on the coolest monthly event in Indy — Wine Wednesday — at his extremely cool house. This month Joseph shifts the happening to Earth House and takes away the wine … and Provocate is invited to be part of the performance art. Yikes!
A three-day symposium organized around the premise that narratives about cancer have influenced the way in which cancer is experienced in America. Prose, poetry, performance, and the visual arts constitute the range of narratives the symposium will explore. (more…)
