November 8 — Youth Imagine a Just, Sustainable and Peaceful Community

How do teenagers envision a just, sustainable, and peaceful community? Local high school and congregational groups will share their imaginative and artistic visions with a panel of Indianapolis community leaders.

Pan-elists responding to these presentations include Judy O’Bannon, former First Lady of Indiana; Carol Johnston, Christian Theological Seminary; Keni Washington, managing director, Earth Solar Technologies; Tim Nation, executive director, Peace Learning Center; and Brian Payne, CEO,Central Indiana Community Foundation. Q&A with youth and panelists will follow. A public art table will invite participants to write or draw their own creative visions for the future. Judy O’Bannon has spent much of her life supporting and promot-ing efforts to strengthen com-munities in Indiana and around the world. Since 2003 she has hosted the WFYI television series Communities Building Community. Judy brings attention to the many ways Hoosiers are strengthening their communities in Indiana and worldwide. She also has a new television series: Judy O’Bannon’s Foreign Exchange. She has served on many boards and in many civic roles, most notably as First Lady of Indiana (1997-2003).


Carol Johnston teaches theology and culture and directs Lifelong Theological Education at CTS. She is ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA). Johnston has taught internationally on issues of eco-nomics, the environment, justice,the Bible and nature, as well as the public role of congregations. She holds a Ph.D. from the Claremont Graduate School.


Brian Payne is President of Cen-tral Indiana Community Foundation and The Indianapolis Foundation. A native Californian, Payne spent many years in theater and came to Indiana to manage the Indiana Repertory Theatre in 1993. Ever since he has been active on many civic boards for the city and the community.


Tim Nation co-founded the Peace Learning Center in 1997 and has been Executive Director since 2003. His responsibilities include community partnership building, agency oversight, and public relations.


Keni Washington is Managing Director of Earth Solar Tech-nologies, a company that develops renewable energy projects. He is a board member of the Indianapolis Peace and Justice Center, working to protect the environment and for the peaceful resolution of interna-tional conflicts.
