September 3 — The ACLU asks, “Sex Ed: What Should Schools Be Teaching?”

The ACLU of Indiana kicks off the 2008 fall season of its First Wednesday lunchtime discussion, aimed at presenting multiple viewpoints on topics of current interest to the Indianapolis community. “Smart, Civil and Only an Hour.”

First Wednesdays are presented by the ACLU of Indiana, with support from IUPUI, the IU School of Law – Indianapolis, and Nuvo Newsweekly.


Betty Cockrum, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood of Indiana, has led Planned Parenthood of Indiana since 2002. Planned Parenthood provides health care and sexuality education for more than 125,000 Hoosiers annually.


Pamela Davis, Area Coordinator for The Peers Project, has been a mentor for adolescents and young parents, through her work at The Peers Project and other social service organizations. Since 1994, The Peers Project has offered programs in area schools which support healthy decision-making and risk avoidance among adolescents.


Dr. Jesse Goodman is a professor in the Department of Education and American Studies at IU-Bloomington. He has studied and published extensively in the area of sexuality education in American schools.
