The hilarious Making Trouble: Three Generations of Funny Jewish Women tells the story of six of the greatest female comic performers of the last century — Molly Picon, Fanny Brice, Sophie Tucker, Joan Rivers, Gilda Radner, and Wendy Wasserstein. Hosted by four of today’s funniest women (Judy Gold, Jackie Hoffman, Cory Kahaney and Jessica Kirson) this film is the true saga of what it means to be Jewish, female and funny.

A synopsis:
Endlessly entertaining and impeccably researched, this insightful documentary celebrates the contribution of iconic female Jewish comediennes to both Jewish and American culture. Among the witty women profiled are legendary musical comedy stars Molly Picon and Fanny Brice, saucy nightclub entertainer Sophie Tucker, pioneering standup comic Joan Rivers, TV star Gilda Radner, and playwright Wendy Wasserstein. Their successful careers spanned from vaudeville and the Yiddish theatre to Broadway, and from Ziegfeld’s Follies to Saturday Night Live. Breaking barriers and shaking the social order, each of these episodes demonstrate the struggle and sacrifice that paved the road to fame. As an added treat, the film is hosted by four contemporary funny ladies – Judy Gold, Jackie Hoffman, Cory Kahaney and Jessica Kirson – who lend a framework to this exploration of what it means to be Jewish, female and funny.
