Immigration policy continues to be a firebrand issue at the federal, state and local levels. Throughout the debates regarding guest workers, amnesty, border security, law enforcement and employer needs, once voice has been consistently underrepresented: that of children caught up in immigration policies and politics, and the impact of immigration policy on their ability to achieve their dreams. Children brought to the U.S. at an early age, children of mixed status families and children who are U.S. citizens yet born to undocumented are all impacted in their ability to grow up in a strong, intact family, access quality educational opportunities and receive needed social services such as health care. Be informed on these issues by the following panel of local experts:
Speaking will be three top local experts:
• Angela Adams, Immigration Attorney, Lewis & Kappes, P.C.
• Marlene Dotson, President, Latino Coalition against Domestic and Sexual Violence
• Juan Watson, Senior Advisor on Latino Affairs, Governor Mitch Daniels
Why does Provocate think you should attend this event?
Immigration is a hot issue for Indiana as we head into an election … and the forces opposed to newcomers will surely mount an assault on the General Assembly to pass whatever measures they can to make life tough on “illegals.” It’s a good time to learn more, especially about how the issue touches kids.
