October 2 — Symposium on comparative immigration

Many Spaniards look at the Moroccans in Spanish cities the way many people in the US look at immigrants from Mexico: some see them as hard-working and eager to make better lives for themselves, some see them as stealing jobs from citizens, some see them as indolent invaders … and after the bombings in Madrid in 2004, many Spaniards see the Muslims as potential terrorists. We have much to discuss.

When: Thursday October 2

Where: IUPUI

The Spanish Consulate is sponsoring a half-day symposium on Comparative Immigration to be hosted by the IUPUI Office of International Affairs and the IU Bloomington Center for the Study of Global Change. Two faculty members from the University of Coruña are scheduled to connect via videoconferencing, and two speakers/researchers from Indianapolis are invited to speak as well.
