October 7 — Frank Williams, Chief Justice, Rhode Island Supreme Court, lectures on “Abraham Lincoln: Lawyer in the White House”

An interesting convergence: Rhode Island Supreme Court Chief Justice Frank Williams is a Lincoln scholar; he has drawn favorable parallels between Lincoln’s suspension of legal niceties during the Civil War and the Bush Administrations prosecution of the war on Islamic extremism; and he has been appointed the Chief Judge on the United States Court of Military Commission Review. Should be a very interesting talk.

When: October 7 5:00 PM

Where: Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis Wynne Courtroom

Why does Provocate think you should attend this event?
Just having one of the country’s leading Lincoln legal scholars in town would be ample reason to attend. But Frank Williams has been and continues to be one of the hard-line legal forces behind the Bush Administration’s war against Islamic extremism … and he thinks his views of the current situation are rooted in Lincoln’s actions during the Civil War. Go.

If you think this sounds interesting, be sure to check out …
There will be a ton of Lincoln events in the coming year as the world celebrates his 20th birthday in 2009.

And for your listening pleasure …

Leonard Nimoy first met Abraham Lincoln in Episode 77 of “star Trek” when Capt. Kirk and Spock joined Lincoln and the Vulcan philsopher Surak in a fistfight against Genghis Khan, Kathless the Klingon and a couple of other bad guys. Sadly, the “Star Trek” episode was better than this rendition of “Abraham Martin & John.”
