The conference is sponsored by the Office of the Governor, the Indiana Department of Education, the Indiana Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs, and Ivy Tech Community College in collaboration with a statewide planning committee. The objective of the conference is to present the current state of affairs in Latino education and identify ways to address the issues of drop out rate, student engagement, and parent involvement. The conference will address K-12, higher education, and adult education with breakout sessions addressing successful program models, best practices, and effective community collaborations. Participants will be asked to commit to the improvement of educational outcomes for Indiana’s Latino students by implementing a community action plan. The target audience for this event includes school corporation Superintendents, local school board members, school counselors, teachers, and ESL staff as well as higher education representatives, legislators, local community agencies and service providers.
