From the IMA’s blurb:
More than a film festival, Campecine was founded in 2007 by youth from Thermal, CA & Indianapolis, IN who are leading and building their communities through collective action, film, inqury, research, and media education.
Listen as youth of all colors share their views on achieving dreams, understanding racism and wrestling teen pregnancy. With the theme “From Invisible to Invincible / De Invinzivlez a Invenzivlez,” Campecine 2008 will move audiences nationwide from empathy to solidarity by screening youth-produced ‘varriomentaries’ (documentaries) and engaging participants in participatory theatre dialogues. You’ll be able to see other examples of the Latino Youth Collective’s videos at the symposium on Mexican immigration on October 13, and the statewide conference on Latino education October 23. Contrast the Campecine films with others shown as part of the IMA’s Latin film festival, especially the Mexican thriller La Zona September 18.
