June 17 — Watch the Israeli comedy “Café Tales”
Reading newspapers might lead us to think there is nothing in Israeli but terrorism and tragedy, oppression and resistance. Seeing a movie about a slice of Israeli life should be a way to correct this limited perspective.
When: Tuesday June 17, 7:00 PM
Where: Laikin Auditorium JCC 6701 Hoover Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46260
The final showing of Indiana Film Society’s Spring series: “Bridging the Gap: Iran & Israel.” Free and open to the public. The dramatic comedy, Café Tales, stars Moshe Ivgy, one of Israel’s most popular actors. When Leah founded the Braun Café in 1959, it became a gathering place for the leading artists and intellectuals of the day. Many years later, creative types still frequent it, but they are all broke and down on their luck. Seeing an opportunity, a group of developers seek any and every method available to drive Leah away and take the property for themselves. But struggling writer Yutz, realizing the value of the Café to the neighborhood, bands the regulars together to fight the shady real estate developers. This movie won many awards in Israel, and was nominated for 5 awards from the Israeli Film Academy, including Best Actress (Elishva Michaeli) and Best Film.
