May 4 — Carwash for Kenya

A chance to make a difference in the life of a family in Kenya, and have a sparkly clean car at the same time.

When: Sunday May 4, 9:00 AM — 9:00 PM

Where: arsh Supermarkets parking lot located at Washington Street and German Church road. 10901 E. Washington, Indianapolis

This from Sarah Danks, recently returned from Kenya:

The family of Peter Njenga is one of the many affected by the post-election crisis in Kenya. They are a Kikuyu family living in the Western town of Bungoma, and tribalism has made it extremely difficult for them to support their family. Peter is an artist and also has skills in welding and driving. His wife Beatrice used to operate a small clothing business, however; their income is currently zero. They have two daughters, Mary (9), and Keltie (5), and they had also previously taken in three homeless boys. Jacob (12), Peter (12), and John (15) are all enrolled in school and doing well. We have secured property for them in central Kenya. The quarter acre piece of land is near where his sister lives towards the town of Naivasha. Tribalism should not be a problem here, giving Peter and Beatrice the best chance to support their family. There is currently $1300 needed to complete the payment for the land which originally sold for $1800. Hopefully the carwash/bakesale will help bring the family closer to this goal.
