May 14 — The Taipei DanceWorks Ensemble celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Taipei-Indianapolis sister city partnership
How can you not love a group that says of itself: “We express Taiwanese culture through tap dance”?
When: Wednesday May 14 7:00 PM
Where: Shelton Auditorium of Christian Theological Seminary, 1000 West 42nd Street, Indianapolis
In its four years of performing, the Taipei DanceWork Ensemble has been hailed as one of the most innovative troupes to tap in decades. Their flamboyant pieces integrate Chinese martial arts and acrobatics, contemporary and traditional Taiwanese music, and the aboriginal war dances of the Polynesian groups that lived on the island before the coming of the Chinese. Sammy David Jr. would be proud.

This event celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Indianapolis-Taipei Sister City Relationship and Taiwanese Heritage Week. Co-sponsors are the City of Indianapolis, Telamon Corporation, Taiwanese-American Association of Indianapolis and the Taipei Economic and Culture Office in Chicago. The Taiwanese government is happy to entertain and enlighten the residents of Central Indiana in the hope that if we were impressed by Taipei tapping, when China invades Taiwan we will be outraged.
Admission is free, although it would be helpful to the planners if you’d RSVP to Dr. Chinghai Kao at chkao@iupui.edu.
