April 8 — “Access to Medicine in Developing Countries: The IU Connection”

10 million people die each year from diseases with available cures, and nearly 1/3 of humanity does not have regular access to essential medicines. Find out about the challenges facing access to essential medicines in IU-affiliated countries, what IU is doing to address them, and what you can do to help (that doesn’t necessarily involve a $2,000.00 round trip!).

When: Tuesday, April 8th Noon-1 p.m.

Where: IUPUI MS 311A/B

Presented by: Universities Allied for Essential Medicines and the Global Health Student Interest Group. Panel includes:

Dr. Bob Einterz — Director, IU/Kenya Partnership

Dr. Mercy Obeime — Nigerian native, founder of the Mercy Foundation, and Medical Director, Saint Francis Neighborhood Health Center

Dr. Sarah Stelzner — Director, Calnali Mexico health education project, Pediatrician, Wishard Memorial Hospital

Tamales will be served.

If you’d still like to help but can’t make the lunch, please check out the UAEM website: www.essentialmedicine.org and sign the Philadelphia Consensus Statement.
