“All across the country, the living wage concept is being debated and passed in some cases or quashed in others. Bloomington has became the first city in Indiana to pass a living wage ordinance for city workers, requiring that some city-subsidized not-for-profit groups, city-subsidized for-profit organizations and city service contractors to pay some or all workers at least $10 an hour, or at least $8.50 an hour if health insurance is provided. SPEA proponents claim that living wage ordinances either have negligible or no negative employment effects.” Come discuss the national campaign and local efforts to establish a living wage in Indianapolis. For more information on the national campaign, visit www.livingwagecampaign.org. For an argument against the living wage campaign, see Harvard economist Greg Mankiw’s piece.
