April 9 — Family Values Are Our Values: The Gay and Lesbian Community Talks

Indianapolis has benefited from the infusion of diverse populations throughout its history. Six previous “Sam H. Jones Creating Greater Awareness Forums” have sought to enlighten participants about challenges and opportunities offered by unique communities, including Asian, African, Native American, and West Indian. The April forum will try to do the same for the gay and lesbian community.

When: Wednesday, April 9, 2008 — Program: 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.; Networking Reception: 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Where: St. Luke’s United Methodist Church (Fellowship Hall), 100 W. 86th St., Indianapolis

The seventh Sam H. Jones Creating Greater Awareness Forum, “Family Values Are Our Values: The Gay and Lesbian Community Talks,” is presented by Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF) in partnership with Indiana Youth Group, Dow AgroSciences and the Indianapolis Chapter of Parents, Friends and Families of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG).

The forum’s purpose is to increase public understanding, appreciation, and affirmation of the history and culture of individuals who are gay and lesbian and to highlight their contributions to the Indianapolis community. A panel of gay and lesbian families from diverse fields will present a variety of information, including the complex issues and struggles faced by the gay and lesbian community at work, at home, and in the church; the experiences of teens who are gay and lesbian; and how current proposed legislation can impact the lives of this population.

Please RSVP for this free event by end of day April 4, 2008 to Pamela Tucker, CICF Grants Associate, at pamelat@cicf.org or register at www.cicf.org on the home page, listed under events. For additional information about the program, contact Ralph Taylor, CICF Grants Officer, at 317.634.2423.
