Terrorism. Unfortunately, the word has become all too familiar to each and every one of us. Add to this reality, the probable no end in sight of this world-wide dilemma and you quickly start to realize the enormous impact it has and will have in every part of our life. This should beg the crucial question, “Why terrorism?” What is the driving force behind this madness?  This is the essential question that must be clearly answered if we are to foundationally understand and then practically go about as a central Indiana community dealing with this seemingly monolithic issue. How important or not will it be to pro-actively welcome Muslim-Americans? These questions and more will again be grappled within a safe place at this month’s Roundtable forum.

Dr. Kevin Jaques, the Director of Graduate Studies in the Dept. of Religious Studies at Indiana University, Bloomington is an American-born specialist in Islamic law and theology. In Islamic Jihad, a Catalyst to Terrorism: Myth or Reality, Part II, Dr. Jaques will share his perspective based on his exhaustive research and experiences in Southeast Asia. Islamic “Holy Jihad” will be the focused issue in regards to even whether or not it exists in the Koran, the Muslims’ Holy book. Dr. Jaques has done research in the predominant Islamic countries of Malaysia and Indonesia. Dr. Jaques earned his Ph.D. in West and Southeast Asia Religions at Emory University.
