May 15: “What Do the People of Darfur Need Now?”

Home to one of the largest clusters of refugees from Darfur, Indiana matters greatly to that troubled region of Sudan. Increasing numbers of Hoosiers are realizing that we can do something about the genocide. How we handle that responsibility is a question worth discussing over dinner, as a Mosaic International Café Conversation.

When: Tuesday May 15, 6:00-8:00 PM

Where: Abyssinia Ethiopian restaurant, 5352 W. 38th St. (near Best Buy) Indianapolis, 46254

Space is limited, so RSVP by calling or emailing Cindy at (317) 920-0231 or cindyball@sbcglobal.net.

Hoosiers and Darfur refugees living in Indiana effectively pressured the IN State government to divest roughly $40 million in state pension money from foreign companies that do business with the Sudanese government.  The United Nations has pledged to deploy 3,000 UN peacekeepers to intensify efforts to achieve a political settlement.  All the while, the Sudan government refuses to honor arrest warrants on a government minister and a janjaweed militia leader on charges of mass slayings, rape, and torture.  Strategic efforts abound, but what do the people of Darfur need right now?

Mosaic International Café Conversations are special opportunities for people of all ages and ethnicities to discuss and dissent, to argue and agree about the most important issues facing our communities. Joining the discussion on May 15 will be several Darfuri-Hoosiers, including Suliman Giddo, founder of the important organization Darfur Peace and Development.
