April 21 — Spotlight 2008: One Night, One Stage, One Reason
Thirteen different Indianapolis performing arts organizations will return to Clowes Memorial Hall for one night of entertainment, complete with music, dance, theatre and spoken word, like no other in the city. Don’t worry if that sounds like too much fun … it’s for an important cause.
When: Monday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m
Where: Butler University, Clowes Memorial Hall
“This is the only night all year where the public can see Indianapolis’ premier theatres, orchestras, singers and dance troupes all on the same stage, and some in never-before-seen collaborations,” said Rob MacPherson, co-artistic director for the Indiana AIDS Fund benefit.
Dance Kaleidoscope, under the artistic direction of David Hochoy, returns as the host performing arts organization. Other confirmed performers include Butler Ballet, The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Indianapolis Opera, Kenyetta Dance Company, Indianapolis Children’s Choir, Indianapolis Men’s Chorus, Meridian Song Project, Phoenix Theatre, Gregory Hancock Dance Company, Asia LaBouche of The Ladies of Legends at Talbott Street and Brenda Williams.
Additional performers will be announced as they are confirmed. Last year’s event included nearly 20 different organizations.
“The Indiana AIDS Fund is able to fund prevention, testing and education programs across the state due in large part to the incredible generosity of the local arts community and donations raised through the Spotlight event. All performers, technicians and stage hands donate their time to produce this unique experience,” said William J. Kingston, Indiana AIDS Fund board member and co-chair for the event.
All proceeds from Spotlight 2008 will be used by the Indiana AIDS Fund to support agencies and programs that educate and prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and serve those living with the disease. Presenting sponsors for Spotlight 2008 include The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis, Indiana State Department of Health, and Community Health Network Foundation.
Tickets are $32.50 and $100 and are available March 3 at the Clowes Hall box office or by calling 317.239.1000, at all Ticketmaster locations or www.ticketmaster.com. A Patrons’ Reception will be held at Clowes Memorial Hall at 5:30 p.m. on the night of the performance. The reception is included with the purchase of a $100 ticket. The Pride of Indy Band and Color Guard will welcome guests to the 7:30 p.m. show.
The Indiana AIDS Fund began in 1994 and has become the largest private funder of HIV and AIDS programs in the state of Indiana. It is a fund-raising and grant-making organization dedicated to supporting programs and services that help educate and assist Hoosiers with HIV/AIDS. To date it has provided more than $4 million in grants to more than 60 organizations across Indiana.
