April 26 — On Procession … Art Parade

Everyone loves a parade, and everyone ought to love art. So what happens when we put the two together into an art parade? Check it out at Fountain Square.

When: Saturday, April 26 noon

Where: Fountain Square, Indianapolis

In conjunction with the exhibition On Procession (description below), the IMA is organizing a downtown art parade in the heart of Indianapolis, and will debut new works from the artists in exhibition. The parade is scheduled to take place in the Fountain Square community on Saturday, April 26 at noon. To participate in the Art Parade, visit www.imamuseum.org/onprocession/ or contact onprocession@imamuseum.org for more details.

What, you may be asking, is “On Procession”? It sounds awesome. On Procession is an exhibition at the Indianapolis Museum of Art that investigates parades as themes and staged events in contemporary artworks. Artworks in the exhibition draw upon ideas of ritual, propaganda and civic celebration, and survey issues of history, identity, and public visibility. On view will be videos, sculpture, installation artworks, costumes, banners, and parade artifacts and ephemera by such artists as Francis Alÿs, Jeremy Deller, Fritz Haeg, Allison Smith, and art collective Friends With You.
