As the US presidential race gathers steam, what role will Iraq play? How many options will the next President have? And what will be the best? Explaining will be Iraq’s ambassador to the UN Feisal Istrabadi, and his big sister Zaineb.

London-born, Iraq- and Indiana-raised, Zaineb Istrabadi graduated fromBloomington High School North, then earned her Ph.D. from Indiana University in1988 writing on Islamic mysticism. From 1986 to 2001 she was the assistant ofProfessor Edward W. Said at Columbia University. She has been a member of the faculty of the NearEastern Languages and Cultures Department at Indiana University since 2001, and was the AssociateDirector of its Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies Program until 2004 when she was appointed Director ofArabic Language Instruction until December 2006. Istrabadi is a member of the Women’s Alliance for aDemocratic Iraq (WAFDI), Christians for Peace and Justice in the Middle East (CPJME), Muslims forPeace and Justice (MPJ), Women Engaged in Bridge Building (WEBB), the Bloomington Muslim Dialog Group (BMDG), the Radius of Arab American Writers (RAWI), the Indianapolis Committee on Foreign Relations (ICFR), and the Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR). She has given innumerable lectures at high schools, churches, and civic organizations on the politics, religions, and cultures of the Middle East.
