January 24 — The Security & Prosperity Partnership of North America

In a meeting in Waco on March 23, 2005, Paul Martin (Prime Minister of Canada), Vicente Fox (President of Mexico), and George W. Bush formed a partnership called The Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP). They had to know it would set off all of the tin-foil hats of paranoids who are convinced that we are slouching toward a United States of North America … so why do it in Waco?

When: Thursday January 24, 6:00 - 8:00 pm
Where: The Earth House Coffee & Books at Lockerbie United Methodist Church, 237 N. East St. Indianapolis, Indiana 46204

This is organized by Mosaic: An International Conversation Cafe Community. Participation Fee: $10.00 (includes a beverage and light refreshments). Email your RSVP to: cindyball@sbcglobal.net or call at 317.920.0231.

According to this Mosaic conversation convener, Cindy Ball (who is channeling her inner Lou Dobbs):

The Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) … was forged to increase security and enhance prosperity among the United States, Canada and Mexico. This trilateral initiative is premised on our security and our economic prosperity through greater cooperation and information sharing and is being pitched as having a shared belief in freedom, economic opportunity, and strong democratic institutions. We are told that it is intended to assist, rather than replace, existing bilateral and trilateral institutions like NAFTA and claims to work towards the three North American countries working cooperatively in the face of common risks and economic competition from low cost co-multi-modal transportation system along the International Mid-Continent Trade and Transportation Corridor to improve both the trade competitiveness and quality of life in North America. The SPP proposes to provide the framework to ensure that North America is the safest and best place to live and do business.

On the surface, all this sounds good, right? But, if this is so good for the country as we know it, why haven’t you heard of it? Has it been through the scrutiny of Congress and have has a treaty been signed to give it legitimacy which is supported by the majority of the country? Will this really increasing our security and protecting our borders from terrorism while keeping trade open? Does this make any sense for our country?

Although there is a government website that provides information about the SPP, there is no law or treaty that backs its creation. A bill was not presented to Congress, public hearings were not held, legislators were not involved, and no vote was taken to use our tax dollars to facilitate this “partnership”. SPP is only an outline of priorities between the three countries. Critics are outraged because our liberty and independence has been undercut without even a hearing or vote from Congress. There is discussion that this “cooperative” is echoing in what Eric Blair’s and George Orwell’s 1984 prediction that we will usher in a “brave new world” by being divided into three super powers i.e. the European Union, the North American Union and the China Asian Union. As for all of North America, this is happening under the guise of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP). I don’t know about you, but this is alarming and requires more discussion, interrogation and a majority endorsement from our representatives.

Provocate would recommend looking at blogs writing about “Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America” and “north american union.” Then Provocate recommends taking a deep breath, possibly walking around the block until reality is restored.
