January 7 — Prof. Gabriel Filippelli discusses global climate change

At what rate is the planet’s climate changing? What are the on-the-ground effects? How can they be modeled? What are the risks/potential for climate surprises? IUPUI’s top climatologist provides the best answers available, and challenges people of faith to take responsibility for our actions.

St Luke’s Green Ministry’s mission is to celebrate God’s creation by Educating, Encouraging and Enabling the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church community to conserve resources and renew environmental harmony.

Gabriel Filippelli is Professor and Department Chair of Earth Sciences and Associate Director, Center For Environmental Health at Indiana University. He has worked extensively on the chemistry and geologic history of nutrient cycling in the ocean and on land. Current research projects involve determining the controls on nutrient cycling on land during glaciation, examining the timing and driving forces of biological productivity in the ocean, assessing the content and distribution of the potentially harmful element mercury in coal resources of Indiana and examining the links between lead distribution and children’s blood lead levels in urban areas.
