Contrary to what you might think from watching the news, some of the most important developments on the Korean Peninsula may have little to do with North Korea’s nuclear program. Some of the other issues that have mostly flown below the public radar screen include: negotiations over the Korean-US Free Trade Agreement; the recovery of the South Korean economy from the Asian economic crisis of the mid-1990s; the shifting rivalry for influence and sometimes grudging cooperation between China, Russia, Japan, and the US … only one part of which manifests itself in the “Six Party Talks” over the North’s nukes.
Coming to Indianapolis to discuss these issues will be three distinguished and influential policy-shapers from DC:
- Lim Sang-Woo is the First Secretary for Economics at the South Korean embassy to the United States
- Robert Armstrong is Chief Economic Officer at the Korean Affairs desk in the US State Department
- James Lister is Vice President of the Korean Economic Institute
This event is part of the Korean Economic Institute’s “Future of Korea Series” of public discussions. Established in 1982, the Korean Economic institute focuses on economics but addresses all aspects of relations between the US and the ROK
Reservations for dinner must be made before 5:00 PM May 10. This can be done by calling 317-566-2036 or email cmatthewfox@gmail.com.
