His piano concerto “Incident at Wounded Knee” is “an evocation of the traditions and moods of the Indian people.”
When: Friday 25 January 8:00 PM; Saturday 26 January 5:30 PM
Where: Hilbert Circle Theatre, 45 Monument Circle Indianapolis
Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra performs Louis Ballard’s “Incident at Wounded Knee,” which takes its title from two controversial events in the long and troubled history of United States – American Indian relations, but Dr. Ballard wrote that the work is only “an evocation of the traditions and moods of the Indian people.” Similarly, Sibelius’s Lemminkäinen Suite, based on Finland’s most hallowed epic, walks the line between storytelling and atmospheric imagery. The “Indiana Concerto,” left unfinished at the time of Dr. Ballard’s passing, has been completed by his protégé Brent Michael Davids.
These two special performances pay tribute to the artistry of Native American composer “Stands With Eagles” Dr. Louis W. Ballard (July 8, 1931 – February 9, 2007)
