January 21 — Indiana Historical Society’s celebration of the near-Hoosier, Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.

It doesn’t take much to make someone a Hoosier: wholesome values and a few visits to Indiana is often enough. That makes Martin Luther King one of us.

When: Monday January 21, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Where: Indiana History Center 450 West Ohio St. ∙ Indianapolis, IN 46202

What ties did Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. have to the Hoosier state? Find out in the IHS’s exhibition, “Sharing the Dream: Indiana Acts for Civil Rights”: in the Lacy Gallery, the theater mezzanine and Eli Lilly Hall you’ll see large graphics, text, audio and original materials from IHS’s collection showing the key players and events that shaped efforts to improve race relations in the state.

Then attend the Historical Society’s MLK Day Celebration: Crafts, performances and activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by the Martin Luther King Center’s annual awards ceremony in the Basile Theater. Performers include Kenyettá Dance Company, Asante Children’s Theatre Kwaanza Choir, Write Me Project and Metropolitan Youth Orchestra. Snacks and family-friendly menu items will be available for purchase in the Stardust Terrace Café.
