March 2 — “A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband, Daniel Pearl”

– “A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband, Daniel Pearl,” an address by Mariane Pearl, Sunday, March 2.

In 2002, award-winning international journalist Mariane Pearl was five months pregnant when her husband, The Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, was kidnapped and brutally murdered by a militant Islamic fundamentalist group in Pakistan.

Determined not to be broken, she wrote “A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Daniel Pearl,” which introduced the world to Daniel Pearl while providing a heartbreaking first person account of his disappearance and tragic death. Angelina Jolie stars as Mariane Pearl in the film version of “A Mighty Heart,” which was released June 2007.

Despite the ongoing investigation into her husband’s death, Mariane Pearl continues to gain strength by celebrating life, the values of humanism and dignity. She is co-founder of the Daniel Pearl Foundation, created to further the ideals that inspired his life and work, promoting cross-cultural understanding through journalism, music and innovative communication.

Her speech is a hallmark event of Butler’s Women’s History Celebration.

Tickets will be available at 10 a.m. Jan. 25 at the box office.
