November 16 — Reception for “Taiwan: From Within the Mist”
The University of Indianapolis will host one of its largest touring exhibitions in recent memory when a collection of contemporary Asian art goes on display Nov. 12.

Occupying three galleries on campus, with many pieces large in scale, Taiwan: From Within the Mist will showcase avant-garde work by 21 Taiwanese artists in media that include painting, photography, digital imagery, sculpture, printmaking, video and multimedia installations. The artists address themes of commercialization, urbanization, Westernization and the tension between the post-industrial world and the cultural traditions of their homeland.
The free exhibition will run through Dec. 7 in UIndy’s Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center Art Gallery, the Leah Ransburg Art Gallery in Good Hall and the Au Ho-nien Museum in Schwitzer Student Center. Maps will be available to assist patrons in navigating the exhibition. A reception is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center Art Gallery.
Taiwan: From Within the Mist is presented locally by UIndy’s Asian Programs office and Department of Art and Design, in conjunction with the Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts and the Culture Division of the Taipei Economic and Culture Office. UIndy is the third stop on a four-city North American tour has included Sioux Falls, S.D., and Vancouver, British Columbia, and will continue to Columbus, Ga., before returning to Taiwan.
