November 5 — NIGHTMARE BEYOND BORDERS … The Iraqi Displacement Crisis and What Can Be Done To Stop It

Talk about a challenge to Spirit & Place’s theme of “living generously”: the US is responsible for more than 2 million Iraqis fleeing their country, and another million displaced within Iraq … and our government is doing all but nothing to help them. It’s up to us Hoosiers.

When: Monday November 5, 7:00-9:00pm
Where: Butler University Jordan Hall Room 141

For more information: Evalyn 317.926.5614 or eakellum@earthlink.net

Natalie and Noah Baker Merrill recently returned from Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon, where they lived and worked among Iraqi refugees - conducting interviews, working to secure release for detainees, advocating for improvements of aid to Iraqi families, and consulting with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

They now coordinate the Direct Aid Initiative, a project of the Electronic Iraq news and analysis website, providing crucial medical care to displaced Iraqis.

Noah and Natalie were married under the care of North Meadow Circle of Friends in Indianapolis. In the year prior to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, they were active in organizing demonstrations and direct action opposing the war through various groups, including the Indianapolis Peace & Justice Center. Noah and Natalie were also active in supporting the peace education work of the Peace Learning Center.

Tax-deductible donations supporting medical needs of displaced Iraqis will be gratefully accepted.
