October 4 — Premiere of “The White Rose”
In 1942, a group of students at the University of Munich calling themselves “The White Rose” decided to protest the atrocities of the Nazi regime and to advocate that Germany lose the war as the only way to get rid of Hitler. They did so non-violently, by publishing and distributing pamphlets throughout Germany and Austria. They were apprehended and executed in 1943. All we know of the arresting officer is that at the last moment he tried to save their lives. Spotlight Players, a community theatre based in Beech Grove, commemorates this story.
