November 13 — Spiritual Giving and Receiving: An Interfaith Peace-Prayer Service
This interfaith worship service will feature prayers for peace from the perspectives of American Indian, Baha’i, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Jainism, Judaism, Islam, Sikhism, and Unitarian Universalism.

Presenters from each tradition will raise their voices in common worship through songs, meditations, poems, or stories, and the Marian College Chamber Singers will perform. Keynote speaker Dr. Lawrence H. Gerstein, director of the Center of Peace and Conflict Studies at Ball State and president of the International Tibet Independence Movement, will share traditions from his Buddhist faith. E

The Carmelites of Indianapolis are an intriguing example of how to balance contemplative withdrawal from the world with active engagement in change. Lawrence Gerstein is professor of psychology and director of the Center of Peace and Conflict Studies at Ball State University. He is also the director of the doctoral program in Counseling Psychology at Ball State. His expertise is in community, peace, and family psychology, consultation, and research methodology. He is president of the International Tibet Independence Movement (www.rangzen.org); an organization he co-founded with His Holiness The Dalai Lama’s oldest brother, Taktser Rinpoche. Gerstein has been a student of Buddhism for over 40 years.
