September 25 — View organ donors’ stories in an award-winning film by IUPUI students
When three IUPUI Informatics students signed up for an upper-division class in video-making, they probably didn’t expect to win awards for a documentary about organ transplants. Hear them tell the story of how they helped others tell their stories.
When: Thursday September 27, noon to 1:00 PM
Where: IUPUI University Library Auditorium 755 West Michigan Street Indianapolis, Indiana 46202
Part of the 2007-2008 Medical Humanities - Health Studies Seminars. Free of charge and open to the public but seating is limited. To attend, RSVP to Vanessa d’Amico at vkoepke@iupui.edu or (317) 278-1669.
A documentary film shot and produced by IU School of Informatics New Media students has been named Best Documentary at the recent 2007 Indiana Actors.com Film Festival and was winner of the 2007 American Association of Critical-Care Nurses Circle of Excellence Award. The winning students - Ja’Juan Shirley, Chris Francis and Matt Turner – along with New Media professor Edgar Huang, were approached by the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization (IOPO) to produce a video about organ donations, told from the perspectives of donors’ families, recipients and the nurses at Clarian Health Partners’ Methodist Hospital. WISH-TV featured the story, and you can see the documentary here.
