September 1 and 2 — Moral implications of patriotism and pacifism in “War to End All Wars”

Two flag-waving army psychiatrists face off against a young war-hero turned pacifist in a World War I hospital … see the IndyFringe performance of “War to End All Wars”

When: Saturday September 1 5:30 PM and Sunday September 2 2:30 PM
Where: Theatre on the Square Main Stage, 627 Massachusetts Avenue Indianapolis

The year: 1918. The place: a U.S. military hospital in France. The situation: two army psychiatrists attempting to cure a war-hero of his newfound pacifism. WWI rages on; millions have died; thousands are dying; and Silver Star winner, Guy Edwards, is preaching the gospel of peace in a hospital that’s doing its dead-level best to turn its shell-shocked patients back out onto the battlefield. Writer and Director William Gebby’s War to End All Wars deals with the conflict between patriotism and pacifism, the struggle between hatred and love, and the war between the law of man and the law of God.

World War I evoked and provoked more anguished reflections on the nature and meaning (and meaninglessness) of war than any other conflict, including Vietnam. Expect to see a renewal of interest in WWI as Americans sort through the implications of Iraq and other aspects of our current “Long War.” This will be a good place to start.

Put on by Indianapolis’s own Inklings Theatre. For more information, visit William Gebby’s website: www.williamgebby.com
