Provocate … now with its own soundtrack!
Check out a recent blurb on Mehter Takimi, the 700 year old Turkish military band coming to Indianapolis August 19 — www.provocate.org/archives/941. We are learning to integrate music and videos. The purpose is not to provide a substitute for actually attending the events … the point is to give you a taste of what you will experience, and to engage you in deeper conversations. Watching these Turkish musicians (many of whom, said a Turkish friend, looked like they had stood at the gates of Vienna), in their three foot tall hats, posing with the mayor of Indianapolis … it was a treat. And several people in the crowd were carrying printed up Provocate blurbs so they could follow the intricacies of the performance. A couple of other music- and video-laden Provocate blurbs:
- September 12 the Jiangsu “Silk & Bamboo Troupe” performs at Clowes … Provocate is curious about how it will all fit together!
- September 18 Gabriela Lena Frank will perform at the University of Indianapolis … part of her process of composing an original orchestral work based on the experience of immigrant kids in Indianapolis
- November 21 music by the great Chinese composer Tan Dun performed by virtuosi on the violin and pipa
But it’s not only particularly musical events that deserve a soundtrack. Provocate is fueled by coffee and music, and while we can’t share our coffee with you over the ‘net, you can hear some tunes. Go to the bottom of blurbs for events and you may find something that looks like this:
Click on the button and listen to the music. Sometimes the tunes have been selected by the event speakers, more often they are choices by Provocate. Listen, you’re certain to find music you have not heard before.
