Evolver wants to help Indy attain planetary consciousness
For the past couple of months there’s been a buzz around Indy about something called Evolver. Very off-beat films, discussions of unified field theory, raw food workshops … we at Provocate love these kinds of events. But we discovered that Evolver is even cooler than very cool events. It is part of a social movement trying to nurture an emerging planetary consciousness. We fished out our copies of Teilhard de Chardin and Philip Dick, checked on visa requirements to enter the noösphere, and asked Maria Renner to explain what Evolver is all about.
So what is Evolver, and how did something this cool take root in Indy?
After several years of seemingly parallel travels and adventures abroad, assimilating into exotic cultures, foreign lands and colorful intentional communities, both Margy Stoner and Maria Renner returned stateside (respectively) to their homeland of Indianapolis. Meeting post-travels through the CouchSurfing.org network, they quickly bonded by their similar international journeys and interest in counter culture, intentional community and alternative health. Deeply moved and motivated by what they experienced during their travels, (Margy while in Spain and Israel and Maria while in Guatemala and Indonesia) they both felt something missing, a gap in their local city living. Upon returning from the annual Burning Man festival in the deserts of Nevada, Maria had the realization that instead of waiting for things to change, instead of complaining, or moving to a larger city, to instead build or create your own community. September 2011, Evolver Indianapolis was born under the leadership of Margy, Maria and David Hedriana.
Is Evolver only an Indy phenomenon, or part of something bigger?
Evolver Indianapolis is part of the Global Evolver Social Movement with the mission to create the scaffolding for an international consciousness network and foster an emerging planetary culture based on ecological values and creative collaboration.
How does an international consciousness network reproduce?
What have you been up to since the first Evolver Spore landed in Indy?
While commencing in September 2011, past events included a presentation and discussion of the Unified Field Theory, Raw Food Workshop, Film Screening and Cooking Demo and an upcoming Evolver Film Series set to screen at the Earth House Collective at the end of February and March. Films include 2012: TIME FOR CHANGE, WAKE UP, MY REINCARNATION and I AM. Other topics of interest and discussed in monthly “Spore” events include permaculture, consciousness, alternative health, sustainability, intentional community, artists-writers-musicians, environment, new technology, social networking, culture and spirituality. While still in initial growth phases, Evolver has been rapidly growing, with over 70 people in attendance at the last event. The group plans to organize events that brings focus and awareness to natural health and conscious eating and living, personal growth and community development.
Give us three reasons why you think people should attend the Evolver film series, especially since we can all stay home and watch them on TV.
- Sure you can watch some of these at home with one or two people, but seeing it screened with a room full of like-minded people? It’s hard to find something to bring people together with the goal and intent of conscious transformation and community building.
- This is a unique opportunity to meet and create the community you’ve always been looking for.
- Evolver is still relatively young in our city. Come get involved early so you can say you were there when it began!
Here’s the series of very funky, thought provoking films Evolver has scheduled for the spring.

synopsis
“2012: Time for Change” presents an optimistic alternative to apocalyptic doom and gloom. Directed by Emmy Award nominee João Amorim, the film follows journalist Daniel Pinchbeck, author of the bestselling 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl, on a quest for a new paradigm that integrates the archaic wisdom of tribal cultures with the scientific method. As conscious agents of evolution, we can redesign post-industrial society on ecological principles to make a world that works for all. Rather than breakdown and barbarism, 2012 heralds the birth of a regenerative planetary culture where collaboration replaces competition, where exploration of psyche and spirit becomes the new cutting edge, replacing the sterile materialism that has pushed our world to the brink. | 3 reasons Maria says “go!”

Filmed over twenty years by acclaimed documentarian Jennifer Fox, MY REINCARNATION chronicles the epic story of the high Tibetan Buddhist Master, Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, and his western-born son, Yeshi. The film follows Namkhai Norbu’s rise to greatness as a Buddhist teacher in the West, while his son, Yeshi, recognized at birth as the reincarnation of a famous spiritual master, breaks away from his father’s tradition to embrace the modern world. Can the father convince his son to keep the family’s threatened spiritual legacy alive? Never before has a high Tibetan Master allowed such complete access to his private life and it is doubtful that another ever will. With her signature intimate entry to both family and icons including the Dalai Lama, Fox expertly distills a decades-long drama into a universal story about love, transformation, and destiny. | 3 reasons Maria says “go!”

I AM is the story of a successful Hollywood director, Tom Shadyac (Liar Liar, Nutty Professor, Bruce Almighty), who experienced a life threatening head injury, and his ensuing journey to try and answer two very basic questions: What’s wrong with our world? and What can we do about it? With a film crew of four, Tom visits some of today s great minds, including authors, poets, teachers, religious leaders, and scientists (Howard Zinn, Lynn McTaggart, Desmond Tutu, Thom Harmann, Coleman Barks) searching for the fundamental endemic problem that causes all of the other problems, while simultaneously reflecting on this own life choices of excess, greed and eventual healing. We started by asking what’s wrong with the world, and ended up discovering what’s right with it. |
