April 19: “The Interrupters” reveals an initiative to stop street violence

From the director of Hoop Dreams, The Interrupters is a captivating story of the change that’s possible one person at a time, and is the only documentary featured in the Indy Film Fest’s Spring Film Series. It tells the moving and surprising story of three dedicated individuals who try to protect their Chicago communities from the violence they, themselves once employed. These “violence interrupters” (their job title) – who have credibility on the street  because of their own personal histories – intervene in conflicts before the incidents explode into violence. Their work and their insights are informed by their own journeys, which, as each of them point out, defy easy characterization.

When: Thursday April 19: 7:00 pm
Where: Earth House 237 North East Street Indianapolis, 46202

Cost: $10. A pass for Indy Film Fest’s series of six films is $40. Tickets available here.
