Peace and women’s rights activist Leymah Gbowee was a joint recipient of the 2011 Nobel Peace Prize, along with Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and Tawakkul Karman of Yemen. Ms. Gbowee, founder of the Liberian Mass Action for Peace played a leading role in ending Liberia’s Second Civil War, as documented in the acclaimed documentary ‘Pray the Devil Back to Hell’. Ms. Gbowee, who is based in Accra, Ghana, is the executive director of the NGO Women Peace and Security in Africa (WIPSEN-Africa), and heads the newly established reconciliation process in her native Liberia.
