February 22: Jennifer Homans — Dance critic, historian and author of “Apollo’s Angels: A History of Ballet”
As Indianapolis struggles to establish a permanent professional ballet company, Jennifer Homans, author of the first-ever cultural history of ballet, Apollo’s Angels, will talk about the past, present and future of this art form. Homans is a former professional dancer who was trained at the North Carolina School for the Arts and The School of American Ballet, and performed with the Chicago Lyric Opera Ballet and the Pacific Northwest Ballet. Currently the dance critic for The New Republic, she has written for The New York Times, The International Herald Tribune, The New York Review of Books, The Guardian, You Magazine,and The Australian. She earned her B.A. at Columbia University and her Ph.D. in Modern European History at New York University. She is currently a Distinguished Scholar in Residence at New York University.
