February 18: Meet the Artists XXIV Gala

Meet the local African-American artists whose works appear at Central Library in this year’s Meet the Artists exhibit through March 31 and enjoy an evening of cultural entertainment. This year’s theme is “A Post Super Bowl Extravaganza!” Featured will be live musical performances, poetry, a hair and fashion show, and book sales and signings by local authors.

When: Saturday February 18, 5:00-10:00 pm
Where: Central Library, One Library Square 40 E. St. Clair St.

Free and open to all.

Who's featured in Meet the Artisits?

The public is invited to meet all of the participating artists and enjoy an evening of cultural entertainment during the “Meet the Artists Gala!” In addition to viewing the artists’ displays, individuals will hear performances by the Griot Drum Ensemble, poet Mijiza Soyini, the Vickie Daniel and Friends jazz and blues band, and the Krash Krew band. A number of local authors will be on hand to sell and sign copies of their books, including Joe Cooper (Don’t Erase Your Dreams), D. DelReverda-Jennings (Babylon Root), Charles L. Terry (Poetry in the Key of Love), Rosalynn Shropshire-West (Black Vignettes: Essays in African-American History and Culture), as well as authors from Midtown Writers.

February 11: REPRESENT Family Day @ Indiana State Museum. Celebrate African-American history and heritage as expressed through the work of the traditional and contemporary Hoosier artists featured in REPRESENT: Celebrating Indiana’s African-American Artists. The exhibit portrays the essence of the black influences on life in America through images, objects, film and more. REPRESENT explores the question: “Why do I create art?”
