April 18: “Bicycle Navigation Using a GPS”

Bicycling enthusiasts are invited to experience the adventures of noted cyclists and learn about trends in the industry during this series sponsored by the Central Indiana Bicycling Association. CIBA members Don Kirk and John Calhoun who will guide attendees through all the techie twists and turns to GPS competency.

When: Wednesday April 18, 7:00 pm
Where: Central Library, Clowes Auditorium, One Library Square 40 E. St. Clair St.

Free and open to all.

January 2: Polar Bear Pedal The day after New Years Day is the right time to bike off some of the holiday sludge. Do it with the mayor and a couple hundred two-wheeled enthusiasts.

January 18: Come to Your Senses — A Celebration of Bicycle Travel Willie Weir, author of “Travels With Willie” and “Spokesongs,” will explain that bike traveling not only allows you to see the world, but to hear, smell, touch and taste it as well.

February 15: “Bike Vietnam 2011″ This Central Indiana Bicycling Association program, “Bike Vietnam 2011,” will feature John Hay, a Bike Vietnam 2011 team member who pedaled over 600 miles through Vietnam to raise support for local education and development efforts. Along with fascinating images of Asian countryside and city scapes, Hay will share stories describing his encounters with the Vietnamese people and culture.

March 21: “Ian and Cheryl’s Wild and Crazy Ride Through Two Continents — Vacation or Adventure? You Be the Judge” Ian Seecof and Cheryl Sunman will describe cycling around the coast of Spain, North Africa and Portugal, as well as an adventurous journey through mountains with hair-raising descents, camel rides, and pick-pockets in the Kasbah.

March 29: “The Belgian Hammer: How Young Americans Break into the Grueling and Global Sport of Professional Cycling” Daniel Lee is a communication specialist for Zipp Speed Weaponry, an Indianapolis-based bicycle wheel and component maker. His nonfiction book, The Belgian Hammer: Forging Young Americans into Professional Cyclists, is about the development process for young United States cyclists trying to make it in European pro cycling.

June 21: Indy Transit – The Missing Link With so many great pieces in place, we need to connect them. IndyTalks with leaders about owning the future of Central Indiana and that last bold step to draw us together with transit. In partnership with the Indiana Citizens Alliance for Transit and the Central Indiana Regional Transportation Authority.
